Dumont tools are still manufactured solely in Montignez, Switzerland and most of the operations are carried out by hand, one item at a time.

Roboz Surgical Instrument Co. carries a wide selection of tweezers from Dumont’s Medical and Biology line. We have many shapes and tip sizes available so that you can find the pair that is perfect for you.

How to Choose Your Instruments

Tips

Standard tips are made for continuous high precision work. Please note that measurements in the catalog are indicative and that slight variations may occur as our tips are hand finished.

Biology tips. The imprint “Biologie” identifies forceps and tweezers especially produced for high precision laboratory work. Usually used under the microscope,
tips on those tools are half the size of the ones on regular instruments.

Curved and Angled Tweezers

There are many instruments meant to ease your work. Angled and curved tweezers enable you to hold your tweezers parallel or at a 90 degree angle to what
you are working on. Most surgeons or workers are comfortable using 45 degree angles on their tips so
they can keep the hand straight, see what they are doing and easily reach the target even in a narrow space.

Instrument Length

Personal preference may be a consideration when selecting the length of a tool. One with large hands may feel more comfortable using longer instruments but the position of the tool in the hand will also help you decide the appropriate length you need. On average, tools are mostly 115 mm long but we have tools ranging from 105 to 135 mm.

Alloys

We offer tweezers made of several different kinds of alloys. Check the description of all alloys available before you make your decision in order to make sure it will suit your needs (for instance, overall hardness or whether or not it is suitable for sterilization.)

Available Alloys

Carbon Steel is an extremely hard alloy (> 59 HRC) composed of C, Mn and Si. While Carbon ensures strong tips, it will nevertheless easily rust. This alloy is magnetic and cannot be sterilized.

Dumostar® This Dumont patented alloy is composed of C, Cr, Mo, Mn, Co, Ni and Si. Dumostar is more elastic and more resistant to corrosion than the best stainless
steels. It is perfectly compatible with human tissue and is resistant to mineral and organic acids as well as salt fields. Dumostar is 100% antimagnetic and is resistant to sterilization temperatures up to 500°C. This is the most cost effective and appropriate alloy for laboratory use.

Inox is a medical stainless steel composed of C, Mn, Cr, Mo, and V that provides an excellent resistance to corrosion and a good resistance to salt. Inox tips are more flexible than pure carbon steel but not as hard (55 HRC). This magnetic alloy supports temperatures up to 400°C (DIN 50 914) and is suitable for autoclave sterilization at 180°C.

Titanium is an alloy composed of C, Fe, 0, H, N, and Ti. It is totally resistant to corrosion from nitric acid, chloride, salt water, and the like. This alloy is not as hard as lnox but is 40% lighter and more flexible. Titanium is 100% antimagnetic and resistant to temperatures up to 430°C.

Dumoxel alloy is composed of C, Cr, Ni, Mo and Cu and is the most popular among our customers. This alloy was developed and patented by Dumont to offer the best in resistance to corrosion thanks to its high concentration of molybdenum and chromium. Dumoxel also guarantees an excellent resistance to sulphuric environments, hydrochloric acid, as well as to all other mineral and organic acids. Dumoxel is 95% antimagnetic, resistant up to temperatures of around 400°C (DIN 50 914) and is suitable for autoclave sterilization at 270°C
